Upcoming Art Therapy Workshops in March 2014, at The Art Experience in Pontiac MI:

Weds March 12, 2014-"Warming up with Color." 6:00pm-9:00pm, ages 14 years and up, $17 per student covering all supplies.

Abstract art can be freeing and does not need to look a certain way. Come and explore the works of three different art expressionist painters: Pollock, Rothko and Guston. Then I will lead students into creating their own abstract acrylic painting on canvas. "Origami Peace Cranes."

from 4:30-6:00pm at the Art Experience. Ages 8 years and older are welcome. This class is only $8 per student with all supplies included.

 

Learn the story of Sadako and the Thousand paper cranes-based on the book by Elenor Coer.

 

We will learn to fold and create origami paper cranes.

 

Led by Emily Sturgill, M.Ed, BFA.

Emily H. Sturgill, M.Ed., Art Therapist was born in Detroit, and grew up in Royal Oak Michigan. Emily began drawing at an early age. Her other interests were writing poetry, reading and listening to music. She began the College of Education: Art Education & Art Therapy program at Wayne State University in 2006. Emily’s practicum experiences included working with youth and older adults, and an internship at a dual diagnosis clubhouse for those with mental illness and co-occurring disorders, supported by Macomb Community Mental Health. She received a Master of Education degree, with an Art Education specialization, May 2012. She earned a BFA in painting, prior to her Master’s work, also from Wayne State. She is very happy to be part of the team and the engaging atmosphere at The Art Experience.
